journey of 365 steps

The past 365 days could only be seen as a dream come true. (Cornball I know but this truly is the only way I can describe it - so let me take you to where it all started).  

Raised by two God fearing parents as well as God fearing family I was always seen as a conservative young girl by my fellow peers. Going to church instead of parties and always opting to do the "right" thing. The arts has always been very close to my heart, I would paint as well as draw, I had even been dance teacher at my local church. All these bringing me great joy, I however knew (truly just felt this) that there was something 'else' I needed to do. Now Im going to go out on a limb and say that it is most little girls dream to be a model, me getting my first taste of a photoshoot in 2011 helping a friend Natanya Wilkinson for her class project. something within me sparked and the wanting - longing to be a model just grew from there.

Life had to go on, I mean honestly, how many girls who dreams of becoming a model in the USA actually comes true? especially a young girl who has absolutely NO self confidence, super skinny, "average beauty" (and I use these terms VERY loosely) and she's from Retreat Cape Town?? Attempting university and college all of which I have nothing to show besides bills. Yet what is meant to be will always find its way, ALWAYS.

After moving to the USA I was introduced to a fellow au pair from China, Mei Meng who had offered to do a photoshoot to which I agreed. With no idea as to what I was doing and still lacking confidence I peddled through. With determination I started shooting with photographers in Boston as well as New York. Each shoot challenging me and what I thought I knew about the model industry. Growing more confident which produced better results, my first runway show for VOGE fashion runway I completely butchered and was convinced I would not be called back (would not believe my surprise as well as relief when I got called back). This opening the doors to more shoots as well as runway shows, with each shoot and or show I would challenge myself to do better, give more and make sure that I gave the very best I had to offer. After 365 days I had one of my biggest dreams come true, I signed to one of the top agencies in Rhode Island.

Now -  now my journey begins and I wish to take you along with me :).
